German Holstein Show 2011

SUPERIOR QUALITY AT THE GERMAN NATIONAL SHOW


On June 9, after two years, the German Holstein Show 2011 traditionally took place in Oldenburg. More than 220 Holsteins and Red Holsteins from Germany, Austria and Luxembourg, faced up to the decisions of the judges Matthias Zens (Musweiler) and Markus Gerber (Switzerland). Both judges and more than 4,000 attendances confirmed the markedly high quality level at the national show. The captivating program as well included a very informative progeny showcase with 9 daughter groups on display. On Thursday the sensation was perfect, when the judges nominated, after 2009 for the second time, the Stormatic daughter Krista of Jörg Seeger and Windlooper Holsteins as Grand Champion. In the history of the German Holstein Show, never before the same cow has been nominated twice as Grand Champion.

International Flair: Red Holsteins

In the heifer classes, the Red Holsteins has been characterized with top conformation, harmony and natural dairyness. Markus Gerber nominated Red Rose, sired by Advent Red and exhibited by Uhrig RZB GbR Sulzbach as the best Red Holstein heifer. Markus Gerber comment to Red Rose ”Red Rose possesses international flair”. In the young cow classes, the Red Holsteins dominated Irmi, sired by Vincente and owned by Hollmann GbR, Oesterdeichstrich. The Champion Title in the Red Holsteins Group assured the Champion-Cow at the European Championship 2010 in Cremona; Italy, Mylene, sired by Talent and exhibited by Paul Mathay, Luxembourg.

 

Balanced heifer classes: Red Holstein Junior Champion

In the heifer classes Holstein, Matthais Zens nominated Odessa, sired by Starfire and owned by Hormann GbR Warmsen. MHG Latima, sired by Howie and exhibited by Mertens GbR, Möllendorf, with a beautiful udder was second placed. First time in the History of the German Holstein Show the Title “Junior Champion” was nominated. The Title “Junior Champion 2011” went to the impressive heifer Red Rose.

 

Impressive Quality and high competition at the Holstein classes

At the class with 2nd calvers Matthias Zens put four cows in focus. His comment “These four cows represent the German Holstein cow, because these cows possess perfect udder quality, dairyness and conformation. Matthias Zens final decision gave an advantage to ZR Imke, sired by Goldwyn and exhibited by Thomas Rohdemann, Großheide.

 

To judge the intermediate classes was a really hard job for Matthias Zens. The Quality of the 3rd and 4th calvers was impressive and the audience of more than 4,000 people expected the decision of the judge. But just one cow could be victorious, Krista the Grand Champion from 2009, she was in perfect show condition and the one of the only at the German Holstein Show 2011!

 

The old cows classes were an impressive sight. The title went again, after 2009 for the second time, to Starleader-daughter Eke Lesta, owned by Hein Ekenhorst, Hesterkante. She impressed with an perfect udder and excellent freshness.

 

Very informative progeny showcase

With nine daughter groups on display, the showcase was handled well and rewarded through the big interest of the audience. In addition to the future bulls Carall, Guarini and Terbium lined up with preliminary proofs, the current top sires Alliance, Faromir, Juwel, Malvoy, Stylist and Wizzard were presented by six to eight  daughters. The audience chose the Carall-group as the best progeny group of the show.

DHV-Genetik 2011: top auction sale

On the eve of the show the program traditionally started with the auction sale DHV-Genetik 2011. A total of 24 lots were sold at an average price of € 6.379. The auction’s Topseller was Niagra-daughter CCC Niagra Kora of Canadian Cattle Club, Stoltebüll. For this stylish calf out of the well-known German show cow Kora EX-92, a buyer from the Netherlands invested €12,000. At €11,000, Super-daughter Lilac of Stefan Siepermann, Hagen, was sold to Lower Saxony. She hails from the world famous One Million Dollar Cow Lylehaven Lila Z EX-94.
